Every culture on this planet has its origins story. In the āenlightenedā West, we have been taught to discount these stories as superstition or fantasy as best, or else to take them literally (see, the Bibleās creation story and evangelicalism). In doing so, we have systematically killed our instinctive connection to the universe. This has been destructive in ways that are overwhelmingly clear now: from mental illness to climate catastrophe, and everything between.
